Beyond Great Kids’ Haircuts Pigtails & Crewcuts Provides a Total Worry Free Experience!

We’re excited to introduce a new line at the salon called Original Sprout. Made with free and clean formulas, the hair products are created from oh-so-gentle organic botanicals to keep you and your children smelling and feeling naturally amazing. We also love that a mom founded the company. Hair Products

For years, parents expected kids to share their adult hair
products, assuming that hair of all ages had the same needs. Now,
kids have access to kid-centric lines, made with high-quality
ingredients to keep their hair pure and free from chemical damage.

Dick Hegener, president of Custom Formulations, a hair care
manufacturing company based in Cologne, Minnesota, says that
parents are really embracing more natural products aimed specifically

Scott Knapp, account executive with Circle of Friends
(www.cofbath.com), which is based in Los Angeles, says that
shampoo scents such as raspberry and pineapple have also developed
a huge following, and he expects banana to be a popular scent in
2012.

In addition, Circle of Friends, which specializes in gentle kids
shampoo that is free of harsh chemicals, including sodium lauryl
sulfates, will be coming out with a new product aimed at kids that’s
similar to Moroccan oil, giving the hair a beautiful finishing shine.
“This is something that’s grown tremendously in the adult category,”
says Knapp. “Moroccan oil is everywhere.”
Knapp adds that the place that Circle of Friends is seeing the
most growth is the lice prevention category. That’s right—prevention.
“In the past, when you were dealing with lice, you were dealing with
treatment,” says Knapp. “It’s been proven time and again that people
are getting more sophisticated, as they realize there are ways of
actually preventing lice from getting into the home.” Circle of Friends
sells a line of products that combine tea tree oil, lavender and other
oils that actually repel lice. “If there is a lice outbreak and the children
are using our products, they will not get lice,” says Knapp.

They love children, they love cutting hair and they love to make YOU happy!. Unlike any other hair salon, cutting kids hair gives us two customers: the child and the parent. We aim to keep everyone happy and provide you with customer service that will exceed your expectations, to help us better achieve this goal, we need your help.

We thought we would share a couple of suggestions that can help us serve you better.

We know that when it comes to doing children’s haircuts, they are moving targets and we can still do a great haircut, we simply need you to help us a little.

If you have a particular style in mind, be sure to find a photo that shows said style. It often helps if you take a picture of your child when his/her hair looks just the way you love it!

When you bring your child in for a new do, please take the time to go over one of our style books, it gives the stylist a starting point. While our stylists are professionals and can certainly deliver the perfect haircut for your child every time, it is best when we can see what you have in mind.

Cutting hair can be such a subjective matter. A little trim may be not enough for one Mom, but too much for the next. Tell us how much you would like, 1/8 of an inch, 1/2 inch…

The most popular girl style in haircutting is the “Bob”. There are several types of bobs, be sure to tell us about the activities that your daughter does so we can best guide you on a do that will fit her lifestyle. There is the traditional bob, a stacked bob, an angled bob…please note that there some some hair textures that are not conducive to bobs.

A traditional boy haircut can also be subjective. A military family may have a totally different perspective on this popular boy do, from say a family of surfers!

When planning on bringing your child for his or hers next cut, please allow time for the proper consultations with your stylist, this will allow for everyone involved to be happy with the final outcome.

Lastly, for all children’s haircuts it is very important that the child look down long enough for the stylist to make sure the haircut is even. If you notice your child is not looking down, feel free to assist. We appreciate the help.

This week we have a head advisory so why not get some relief with a new cool do! Just as your child may be over the pool, their hair may be sporting a nice tint of green. Your child’s hair, whether long or short needs to be care for properly to help it stay healthy. Be sure to use a clarifying shampoo specially formulated for children, so it can remove the copper and protect the hair root! People believe that it’s the chlorine in a pool that turns hair green. That’s not true. Fair hair turns green in a pool for the same reason the Statue of Liberty turns green: copper.

Long summer months in the pool often have an unpleasant side effect on fair-haired people. Notice we say people and not just children. If you have fair hair, then you too are at risk of ending up with greenish hair! After a certain number of long dips in the pool, they acquire a green tinge to their hair. Most often this is attributed to the chlorine in the pool water, but that’s not the case. Chlorine doesn’t turn hair green.  Chlorine dries your hair and makes it harder to manage, this happens whether you have blonde hair or dark hair!

It’s not the hair that turns green in the pool, it’s metal. Specifically, it’s copper. Over time, and with exposure to oxygen, copper oxidizes, transforming from a shiny yellow-brown to a dull green. Copper is already suspended in water, especially hose and well water. One or two parts per million of oxidized copper can give hair a green tint. Once copper is oxidized, it tends to bind to certain proteins. Some of those proteins are found in hair. (Other exposed body tissues are sloughed off too consistently to make the green tint a problem.) Summer months make the green tint more noticeable, since the sun bleaches hair. To be fair, chlorine does speed the oxidation process, but a more common culprit is the algaecides that people add to their pool to keep it clear. These contain copper and make the greening process more intense.

There are special shampoos that strip the oxidized copper off of hair, and people can prevent the copper from latching on at all by covering their hair in conditioner.  At Pigtails and Crewcuts we have both, our Summertime Scrub, which is our  private label,  tear free shampoo with the ingredients that child friendly and will leave your hair green free!
